Top 5 Reasons to Upgrade to Precision Ball Bearings

Ball bearings for wheels are worthy casters components and are used for thousands of applications in every industry. These small metal pieces play a large role in reducing friction as they bear weight and pressure from both rotating and stationary parts. Though not extremely obvious, ball bearings can be invaluable because they are used in the rolling action for two types of loads: radial and thrust loads.

However, all wheel bearings can break down over time and this severely affects caster performance by leading to costly workplace and productivity issues. When low-quality ball bearings are used, the resulting parts may not be to the standard needed for a particular application. Here are five good reasons to upgrade to precision ball bearings:

  1. Ergonomically sound. For easy rolling and minimal noise, precision ball bearings are sealed, sometimes use an integrated spanner bushing, and always require no maintenance. Made to withstand environments up to 250°F, these wheel bearings have good side thrust load for optimum radial capacity.
  1. Made for Quieter Surroundings. Precision ball bearings are a great choice whenever quieter environments are preferred. Great for working in light or medium duty locations in which you require casters that make little noise, these dual-raceway, low-maintenance parts are also made to withstand up to 250°F. Also consider precision ball bearings for ease in rolling and minimized noise levels.
  1. No maintenance. For standard environments, precision ball bearings are always your best bet. Because precision ball bearings are sealed, they never require any maintenance grease. As for high temperature or liquid exposure applications, either bronze bearings, Delrin bearings or Oilex bearings may be a better solution.
  1. Extended lifespan. If durability and longevity are factors, sealed ball bearings are a superior choice that provides increased weight capacity and added strength. Also consider tapered roller bearings if lifespan is a concern.
  1. Sealed for washdown environments. For food service and material handling environments, sealed precision ball bearings are your best bet. Sealed precision ball bearings are also available in stainless steel. However, Delrin bearings are a likely choice where steam and humidity are high and maximum temperatures don’t reach over 160°F.

Whatever your caster and wheel application, you need the right quality parts for the right application, right down to the wheel bearings. Let CasterDepot help you differentiate between parts and components for the perfect solution to meet your needs. Precision ball bearings can be worth their weight in gold!
