The inner diameter threading is for a standard 1/2"-13 thread count stem. The outer diameter fits into 3/4" National Pipe Thread (NPT) Piping is measured differently than tubing and has a unique thread type and count for the size. Piping is measured by the inside diameter because of the volume of water or gas that is allowed to flow. This insert fits 3/4" pipe
