Executive Director of Shady Oaks Camp, Scott Steele, wrote to CasterDepot, “On behalf of the Parents Association for Cerebral Palsy Children and Shady Oaks Camp, I would like to sincerely thank you for your generous donation of new wheels for our camp hospital beds.”
Shady Oaks Camp is a nonprofit camp founded to help children and adults with cerebral palsy. Established in 1947, the camp provides 8 weeks of camping each summer, including many outdoor programs as well as a variety of life-enriching activities that support and enhance the camper’s overall quality of life.
A few years ago, Shady Oaks received some hospital beds as a donation, but the beds needed wheels—desperately. Corroded, rusted, and with separated treads, the wheels no longer functioned and even damaged the floor during use.
Too lucrative to turn down and in need of the hospital beds, the camp simply couldn’t afford to replace all of the wheels and at the same time accomplish all the financial goals for the year. So CasterDepot decided to donate new wheels for the 20+ hospital beds.
Scott Steele offered more perspective on the topic, “Our parents work extremely hard to raise funds to pay for camp operations throughout the year and there is simply not a large amount of money available for capital improvements or new equipment. Your donation not only saved us money on new wheels, but also will help preserve our remodeled buildings that volunteers work so hard to complete.”
Upgrading Shady Oaks Camp remains a highlight of the year for CasterDepot. Not only is it for a good cause, but the floors were saved as well.
