Heavy Duty Casters: Sweeping the Competition

When Henry Ford first used the assembly line for car production in 1913, he couldn't have guessed that automotive production would ever roll this smoothly.

Our customer, a US car manufacturer, needed extra heavy duty casters that could withstand the hefty weight of vehicles sitting on carts — and constant movement throughout the assembly workday. Over 10 years ago, they had purchased Hamilton Extra Heavy Duty casters from us and needed to update part numbers, specifications, and pricing. Their main concerns still involved weight capacity, rollability, and keeping the caster and wheel clear of debris and small hardware during operation.

The Hamilton Heavy Duty Caster

We got this customer set up with Hamilton's Super Endurance Kingpinless Caster with a 6" wheel and 6,000lb load rating. Its kingpinless forged steel construction with Timken bearings resists shear force and heavy loads. The 6” forged steel wheel provides exceptional rollability and weight capacity and gives the caster an 8” overall height.

A Clean Sweep

To address the customer’s concern about debris interfering with cart operation, this S-SEC-63FST caster was outfitted with a sweeper brush designed to move and deflect materials around the wheel’s operating area. For this application, the sweeper brush is not a substitute for regular shop floor cleaning — but it does ensure continued cart operation despite the obstacles.
